Every second year, the Lisbon Addictions take place. From the outset, Lisbon Addictions has been about stimulating high-quality scientific debate and showcasing leading European research in areas such as illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, screen addiction, gambling, and other addictive behaviours. It is a multidisciplinary conference, providing a forum for networking across the addictions field.

Next year, Lisbon Addictions 2024 (#LxAddictions24) will take place at the Lisbon Congress Centre from 23-25 October 2024, under the overarching theme of ‘Empowering the workforce of the future’. The upcoming conference will present cutting-edge research to help characterise, understand and respond to addiction and addictive behaviours today. It will also provide opportunities for early-stage researchers to enhance their careers through dedicated showcase sessions, networking activities and mentoring.

The event is organised by: the Portuguese General Directorate for Intervention on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (SICAD); the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA); the journal Addiction/Society for the Study of Addiction (Addiction/SSA); and the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE). The event receives support from various international, European and national organisations, networks and projects.

For the congress, the call for abstracts is now open! Abstracts can be handed in on the following topics:

1. Empowering the workforce
2. Prevention of risky and harmful behaviours
3. Alcohol: risks, clinical considerations, treatments, and outcomes
4. Addiction and mental health
5. Hepatitis C, other infectious diseases, and drug-related harms
6. Behavioural addictions
7. Drug policy: latest developments and new challenges
8. Open track

The abstracts can be done on the following types of presentations:

• Oral presentations: 15-minute presentation, 5-minute Q&A
• Short communications: 8-minute presentation, 2-minute Q&A
• e-Poster presentations
• Workshops: 90-minute session

The deadline for submission is January 31st, 2024. It is expected that a notification of acceptance will be sent by the end of May 2024
