National Care Centre (NACARE) is a Ugandan founded NGO incepted in April 2004, and registered with the NGO Board in January 2006, (Charity No.591/6551).NACARE, a centre for management of substance abuse/addictions, mental illness, offers a drug free treatment program for alcoholics and drug addicts, advocates for quality health services , HIV prevention and health rights including Sexual reproductive Health.


Vision: NACARE’s vision is a healthy community, free of substance abuse and capable of responding to health challenges on a sustainable basis


Mission: Provide a continuum of holistic care and quality treatment to individuals and families suffering from addictive illness including mental disorders, promote quality health and care, and advocate for health rights.


Aim: NACARE aims at promoting a healthy culture and an environment that is free of substances of abuse and to prevent mental disorders.


Core areas of focus:



  • Care and Management of drug addictive disorders, mental illnesses, and substance dependence, and related psychosocial disorders among the Youth and other and other vulnerable persons.

  • counseling and referral for HIV/AIDS prevention

  • Networking and collaboration for adoption of replicable and best practices

  • Community Outreach for awareness and sensitization through effective advocacy messages for inclusion in policies


NACARE now runs two rehabilitation centres located in Kampala and Bushenyi districts respectively.
