With two decades of correctional work experience with the Singapore Prison Service (SPS), Weng Chew joined Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) as its Executive Director in 2023 to mobilise the community towards a drug-free Singapore. He is enthusiastic about educating the masses on the harms of drug use and abuse, providing support for individuals in drug treatment and recovery, and advocating for a drug-free society.
During this tenure with the SPS, Weng Chew helmed leadership positions in organisational development, strategic planning, and service excellence. He also headed a drug rehabilitation centre and a community reintegration facility separately to support drug abusers in their ‘in-care’ rehabilitation and ‘aftercare’ reintegration back to society. This is an important aspect of Singapore’s comprehensive ‘Throughcare’ approach in the relapse prevention, treatment, and recovery of drug abusers.
Weng Chew is also currently the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Confederation against Drugs (APCD), a coalition which SANA initiated in 2025 to bring together like-minded NGOs from the region to advocate for stronger harm prevention efforts and project a strong unified voice at international forums. To strengthen Singapore’s workforce in the field of substance use prevention and addiction recovery, he established SANA as ISSUP’s Singapore Chapter in early 2026.
Weng Chew holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering, a master’s in organisational leadership and a post-graduate diploma in social work. He enjoys swimming, tennis, pickleball and reading.
