The Swedish public health policy which was adopted by the Parliament 2003 has facilitated systematic public health efforts in municipalities, county councils and regions. However, there is a need for more national health data that describes the development of the determinants of health at local level; clearly defined objectives for public health practice; and better control and monitoring systems at all levels. These and more results were emphasized in a new report from the Swedish National Institute of Public.
