The so called Global Commission on Drug Policy is trying to make Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper change his mind regarding marijuana. This time the Commission states that corruption, organised crime and violence are inevitable consequences of marijuana prohibition. A fantastic nonsense statement produced by people who pretend they understand drug policy better than anybody else.
Would corruption, organised crime and violence go away should marijuana be made legal? Of course not. There are about as many reasons for corruption, organized crime and violence as there are people making their living from it. Legalizing marijuana won´t change that. On the contrary, corruption, organised crime and violence would increase if drugs were to be legalised as competition between a legal and an illegal system for sale of drugs would still be there. Organised crime groups won’t give up their business for a little competition from the Global Commission.
