The basement jail in the Deuel County Courthouse once housed drunks, scofflaws and a murderer. Now the cells of antique iron and concrete are stacked with plastic buckets and totes of Colorado marijuana, mostly seized during routine traffic stops on Interstates 76 and 80 near this western Nebraska farming community. “It’s a drug pipeline,” said Deuel County Sheriff Adam Hayward. “We’re just scratching the tip of the iceberg compared to what’s out there.”
