In spite of global efforts to control tobacco use, tobacco smoking remains a common addiction with over one billion smokers in the world. As a result, exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS), a known cause of morbidity and premature mortality, is widespread, according to an article, Worldwide burden of disease from exposure to second-hand smoke: a retrospective analysis of data from 192 countries, in The Lancet, where researchers present the first set of estimates on the extent of SHS exposure worldwide and the associated burden of disease.
