As of August 1 Western Australia introduces new penalties for possession and growing of cannabis.
According to the new law, a peson caught with more than 10 grams of cannabis will face a penalty of $2 000 or two years’ imprisonment, or both.
Somebody in possession of more than 100 grams of cannabis will face a penalty of $ 20 000 or two years in prison.
There will be a cannabis intervention requirement for those found in possession of 10 grams or less, requiring the person to attend a mandatory counseling session.
Displaying or selling cannabis paraphernalia could carry fines of $10 000 if sold to adults, and up to $24 000 if sold to minors.
