Nobody knows what the conviction rate for drunk driving in South Africa is or how many licences of drunk drivers and speedsters have been suspended or cancelled. At least that’s according to three major government departments tasked with a role in traffic law enforcement, prosecution and justice. This has frustrated road safety campaigners, with at least one of them as describing it as “subversion of the law”.
