A psychiatric diagnosis is about as scientific as the “science” of economics. The only difference being that you can’t get a Nobel prize in psychiatry whereas you could get one in Economic Sciences – the only problem being that there is no such thing as economic science even if prestigious universities pretend there is.
Anyway, now the DSM-V is out there for everybody to find his/her favorite diagnosis provided you are prepared to pay almost $200 to learn more about your psychiatric illness(es).A copy of DSM-V is quite expensive. However, rest assured that a copy of the manual is cheaper than consulting a psychiatrist for less than an hour.
As psychiatric diagnoses are becoming more and more common, with almost every aspect of human behaviour demanding a diagnosis, make sure you include a few in your next CV. Every citizen with self-respect ought to be entitled to a psychiatric diagnosis!
