There is one overriding question which should be asked of any government drug policy. Will it risk creating more use of illegal drugs rather than less? It would appear that the Liberal Democrats are hell-bent on ensuring that the answer is ‘yes’, with a reckless disregard for such a calamitous consequence. It is now becoming clear that the appointment of the LibDem Norman Baker as Minister of State at the Home Office is a crude attempt at a LibDem drug policy putsch.
