Kenya Economic Youth Network was founded in August, 2005 as a community based organization. Based on the challenges that were experienced Butere Youths, the organization was formed with an aim to improve Economic status of youth and women residing in Butere. Most of the youths were highly characterized by idling, substance abuse, premarital sexual involvement, deteriorating education standards, lack of innovation, poor health status and lack of talent development among other undesirable attributes of life. Out of compassion and passion for a better community and brighter future, they wanted a platform from which they could change their community, especially the youth and future generations.

Kenya Economic Youth Network is actively involved in mobilization of the youth in Kakamega, Siaya, Busia and Vihiga Counties for ultimate empowerment and community achieving sustainable development. Owing to the growing community demand and perceived potential for implementation not only locally but also nationally, two things had to be done.
