Today, we commemorate the International Day of Human Rights. On this day, we highlight and promote this year’s theme: “EQUALITY – Reducing inequalities, advancing Human Rights”. With a human rights-based approach and efforts on all levels, including policy-makers, civil society, communities, etc., we need to find solutions to the deep-rooted forms of discrimination that have affected the most vulnerable people in societies.
We need to rebuild better, fairer, and greener (UN – Human Rights Day)
The International Day of Human Rights also finalises the 16 Days of Activism. The 16 days of activism followed Orange Day, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The 16 days showcased the urgency to raise awareness on this global health issue. Globally, gender-based violence (GBV) is still apparent and even increased due to the current global challenges. Therefore, we have highlighted several facts on gender-based violence, its connection with substance abuse, and discriminatory processes. Additionally, we showcased tools to implement change in programmes and provide a safe environment for women. Only together we can work towards the elimination of violence against women.
