Celebrating Our Members Through the Spotlight Campaign

On 22 May, WFAD launched the Members Spotlight Campaign on Instagram to celebrate the inspiring work of our members around the world. Since then, the campaign has expanded to LinkedIn and Facebook, allowing us to share these stories more widely and reach a broader audience across our global network.

Our members are at the heart of the WFAD network. Every day, they work in their communities to strengthen prevention, improve access to treatment and recovery, empower young people, support families, and advocate for healthier and safer societies. Through the Members Spotlight Campaign, we aim to showcase these efforts, amplify the voices of our members, and highlight the impact they are making at the local, national, and international levels.

In just over a month, the campaign has featured members from across our global network, each demonstrating different approaches to prevention, recovery, and community engagement.

In Tanzania, Shabani Miraji Shabani shared the story of Jioni ya Zamani (“Evenings of the Past”), a youth-led initiative that brings together elders, faith leaders, professionals, and young people through storytelling, music, poetry, mentorship, and dialogue. By combining cultural traditions with prevention approaches, the initiative has strengthened community engagement and reached more than 300 participants.

In Bangladesh, Marjana Muntaha and Dhaka Ahsania Mission highlighted how young people can play an active role in prevention and recovery. Through awareness campaigns, youth dialogues, advocacy, and skills development activities, young volunteers, including people in recovery, are helping to build stronger and healthier communities.

Our Spotlight also featured the Turkish Green Crescent Society, which hosted the 6th Youth Advocacy Forum in Istanbul. Bringing together 30 young advocates from 18 countries, the forum explored how sport can support addiction prevention, strengthen resilience, and promote youth well-being through life skills training, interactive workshops, and team activities.

In Nigeria, Mukhtar Aliyu Usman showcased the Leading a Healthy Lifestyle project, which engaged students through peer-led prevention initiatives, established drug-free clubs, and trained young prevention influencers to promote healthier campus environments.

In Macau, YMCA Macau shared its practical and creative approach to substance use prevention. Through educational activities, leadership programmes, outreach, creative workshops, sports, and individual support, the organisation helps young people develop resilience, build confidence, and make healthier choices.

Most recently, we highlighted Dr Azqa Shahzad and Career Sync Solutions in Pakistan, who invited 12 young people to share their perspectives on supporting people in recovery. Launched during Drug Recovery Month last year, the e-magazine brought together youth reflections on hope, community support, and the need to end stigma around recovery. Their contributions remind us that recovery should be met with understanding, encouragement, and meaningful support.

Although each initiative is unique, they all demonstrate the strength of community-based action. Whether through youth leadership, culture, education, sport, recovery support, or creative engagement, our members continue to show that prevention is most effective when it is rooted in local communities and driven by people who understand their own contexts.

The Members Spotlight Campaign will continue to feature inspiring initiatives from across our global network every Friday. As the campaign grows across Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, we look forward to sharing even more stories that showcase the dedication, innovation, and impact of our members around the world.
