North Borneo Comprehensive Youth Social and Health Awareness Program – by Individual Member

Our Individual Member, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Nazri Mohd Daud, shared his recently conducted awareness-raising programme among students at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

On 9 September 2025, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), together with Government Community Health Clinic and various local NGO (ABIM, Sabah AIDS Support Services Association (KASIH) and PERDESA), collaborated with City University Malaysia (Sabah Regional Centre) as the main organiser to host the Comprehensive Youth Social and Health Awareness Program.

The program gathered 200 students from City University Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu Sixth Form College. It aimed to raise awareness of current social and health issues among youth while strengthening leadership values and self-worth.

Addiction issues among youth were strongly emphasised, particularly the rising threat of new synthetic drug abuse and its social implications. This session was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Nazri Mohd Daud, Consultant Family Medicine Specialist, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UMS. Other highlights included talks on leadership, self-dignity, and sexual health awareness (including STDs and HIV/AIDS), delivered by experts from the Ministry of Health Malaysia and respected NGOs.

The organisers hope that the knowledge and insights shared will inspire positive behavioural change among students and contribute to strengthening holistic youth health management in Malaysia, especially in Sabah, North Borneo. Our sincere thanks to Mr Mohamad Hafez Rashidi bin Mohd Yusop, Chief Operating Officer of City University Malaysia (Sabah Regional Centre), and his dedicated team for their strong support.
