Press Statement – Response to the Petition by the Rastafarian Association of Kenya

The Rastafarian Association of Kenya has submitted a petition to the Milimani Law Court of Kenya seeking to legalise marijuana on religious grounds on May 17th. However, there are many arguments to be made against this petition and around the safety of legalisation. Our member, Slum Child Foundation has responded to this petition with a press statement. It showcases the local and global position towards marijuana, highlighting that marijuana is not considered safe. Also, it reflects the arguments on stigmatisation and religion claimed by the Rastafarian Association of Kenya. Finally, it addresses children as important aspects to be kept in mind while talking about the legalisation of marijuana. Children should be protected rather than given the opportunity to use the substance easily.
