Throughout Recovery Month, our Recovery Around the World series is highlighting organisations and initiatives supporting recovery in different parts of the world. This week, we turn to Macau and the work of ARTM – Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of Macau through its Hold On to Hope Project (H2H).

Created in 2020, H2H supports people in treatment and recovery to build confidence, gain practical skills and prepare for employment and community reintegration. The project brings together ARTM professionals and team members who bring lived experience to the programme.

H2H includes a coffee shop, live library, art gallery and children’s activity corner, where participants gain hands-on experience through real workplace responsibilities. Through these activities, they develop practical skills in areas such as customer service, event preparation, marketing and community engagement.

ARTM has shared that members of the wider community who have visited H2H said the experience changed their perceptions of people in treatment and recovery, showing how greater interaction and understanding can help challenge stigma and create stronger support for reintegration.
