The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) will hold a hybrid event commemorating the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and launching the 2024 UNODC World Drug Report. The event will take place in a hybrid format on June 26th, from 1 pm to 3 pm CEST (Vienna time, UTC+2) at the Vienna International Centre and online.

The VNGOC has been invited to nominate up to three civil society participants, who will have the opportunity to make a brief intervention (max. 2 minutes) during the event.

In order to apply for a speaking slot, please fill out the online form before Sunday, 16 June 2024, 11.45 p.m. Vienna Time (CEST).

Please make sure that your abstract is relevant to the topic of the meeting, keeping in mind the work of the CND, the launch of the 2024 World Drug Report, and how to best use the data contained in the World Drug Report to tackle drug-related issues.  The 2024 World Drug Report presents the latest global, regional, and subregional estimates and trends in drug demand and drug supply in a user-friendly, interactive online format. The Report also offers an in-depth analysis of specific topics including the intersection of drug and other crimes in the Golden Triangle and their impact on the environment and communities; the recent drug ban in Afghanistan and the impact of the ban in the country and beyond; regulatory changes and market developments in relation to cannabis and psychedelics; gender dynamics and synthetic drugs; and a conceptual framework of the right to health in the context of drug use. A summary of key findings, special points of interest and policy implications will also be part of the Report’s package
