Legalization might hurt Latin America in the short term by increasing criminal activities like extortion, robbery and kidnapping, while having uncertain effects on violence reduction. The only way to reduce crime and violence in Latin America is to improve justice systems, fix prisons and reduce corruption. This is where the problem is, and where the solution should be.
