Indiana medical and legal experts are pushing for laws that would allow more monitoring of pregnant women who use drugs in an effort to prevent babies from being born with addictions. Studies show the number of newborns with opiate drug withdrawal has more than tripled over the last decade. Natalie Robinson, coordinator of the Indiana Attorney General’s Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force, said the problem has reached epidemic levels.
