When all votes in Arizona have been counted it turns out that Proposition 203 re. so-called “medical” marijuana won with a margin of just 4 341 votes.

The final count was 841 346 in favour of Prop. 203 and 837 005 opposed.

The measure will allow almost any patient suffering from cancer, HIV/Aids, hepatitis C or any other “chronic or debilitating” disease to buy 2 1/2 ounces of marijuana every two weeks or grow plants. Considering the fact that several doctors have realized that there is a lot of money to be made in the marijuana business we might expect a sudden influx of new patients suffering from a “chronic or debilitating” disease looking for such doctors.

According to the guidelines a “patient” must get a recommendation from a doctor and also register with the Arizona Department of Health.

It should be noted that so-called “medical” marijuana has not been approved as a medicine by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

Right now 15 States in the U.S., Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.have approved propositions/measures for distribution of marijuana.
