The Swedish National Association for a Drug-free Society (RNS) is a Swedish popular movement campaigning against illicit drugs founded in 1969 by Nils Bejerot, a physician. Today we have some 10,000 members throughout Sweden. We do not have any religious or party-political affiliations.
RNS sees its main task as lobbying for a restrictive drugs policy in Sweden, by which we mean that all abuse of illicit drugs must be combated. Establishing preventive measures against drug abuse is important, as is consistent, early intervention wherever it occurs. Our goal, of course, must be to persuade young people never to try drugs in the first place.
RNS is not an organisation representing the interests of any particular professional or other group. Our aim is to unite all democratically-minded people in the struggle for a drug-free society, irrespective of their views on other political issues.
