Recovery Around the World: Kenya
Throughout Recovery Month, our Recovery Around the World series is highlighting organisations and initiatives supporting recovery in different parts of the world. This week, we turn to Kenya and the work of UHAI KENYA NGO, led by Founder and Director Kibe Edwin Gitau (UHAI).
For more than 15 years, UHAI Kenya has worked across prevention and recovery support. Alongside its prevention work, the organisation provides psychosocial support, family engagement and community-based follow-up for people in treatment and recovery.
UHAI Kenya recognises recovery as an ongoing journey that continues beyond treatment. Its support focuses on helping people strengthen coping skills, rebuild relationships, maintain recovery and stay connected to supportive environments.
The organisation also emphasises that recovery does not happen in isolation. Families, faith communities, schools, professionals and other stakeholders can all play an important role in supporting people throughout recovery.
We are also pleased that Edwin Kibe Gitau will join us as a panellist for our Recovery Month Webinar on 29 September, 14:00–15:30 CEST, where we will explore experiences and approaches to supporting recovery across different contexts. Register for the webinar here.
Thank you to Edwin Kibe, UHAI Kenya and the wider team for your continued work across prevention, recovery and community support.
