Achievements of our member the Eye Opener after winning the WHO WNTD 2021 Award

Every year, the WHO recognizes individuals or organizations in each of the six WHO Regions for their accomplishments in the area of tobacco control. This recognition takes the form of WHO Director-General Special Recognition Award and World No Tobacco Day Awards. Our member, the Eye Opener, received the award in the African Region Category. After their win, the Eye Opener has continued to showcase successes in their work.

They inaugurated the Tobacco/Substance Abstinence Club (TA Club) in schools and are still working to spread the TA Club to the 36 States in Nigeria.

They engaged the ethnic group and used sanitation and local drummers to draw the attention of the community to the dangers of tobacco and substance misuse.

They shared the Health kits with vulnerable girls and sensitised them on the dangers of tobacco and substance misuse.

They continued their media campaign in commonly spoken language in the northern part of Nigeria.

Their house to house campaign and street on NO TOBACCO is ongoing with sharing toiletries to the vulnerable people dependent on tobacco and substance at the motor parks. The toiletries are their token of love and an alarm reminder of the more than 100 reasons to quit tobacco.
