We want to congratulate our member, Mr Forhad Hossain, Founder and Executive Director of LEEDO, who has received the prestigious “Journalisms Jury Award” at the Mister Vorky Film Festival in Serbia in the category of ‘one-minute film’ named “My Story: Forhad”. The movie’s director is Jamillah van der Hulst, from the Netherlands (See original article/announcement below).
Mr Forhad is a renowned Human Rights Activist in Bangladesh and is recognised internationally for his humanitarian initiatives for vulnerable communities and less fortunate migrant children and women. Under his leadership, LEEDO’s team rescues more than 500 vulnerable children from physical and mental violence and reintegrates and reunites them with their families every year. If the families are not found, the children are referred to LEERO Permanent Peace Home or other like-minded organisations for long-term rehabilitation.
LEERO has established two transitional shelters and five School Under the Sky – mobile schools and Permanent Peace Homes in which children without homes or parents are provided with their basic rights and livelihood facilities including formal education, food, shelter, entertainment, sports and games, etc. Central is the family atmosphere provided. LEEDO ensures that children as well as children with special needs can go to formal schools and special schools, receive access to full facilities, and can lead a dignified life.
The award received is a testament to their hard work, commitment, and provision of essential support.
