Recovery Around The World – Recovery Walk Cape Town

Throughout Recovery Month, our Recovery Around the World series will highlight organisations and initiatives supporting recovery in different parts of the world. We begin in Cape Town with Recovery Walk Cape Town.

Run by volunteers, Recovery Walk Cape Town brings together people in recovery, families, professionals, organisations and allies through its annual Recovery Walk, a free, inclusive and sober community event. This year, the Walk will take place on 10 October 2026. The movement celebrates recovery, challenges stigma and social exclusion, and connects people with recovery resources, services and support networks.

Over the years, the movement has also grown into a platform for advocacy and greater visibility of recovery. In 2025, participants walked to Parliament and presented the memorandum Make Recovery Visible: Recognised, Supported, Celebrated, calling for a more recovery-friendly public culture, greater support for peer-led recovery services and meaningful representation of lived experience in decision-making.

That same year, Recovery Walk Cape Town partnered with the University of Cape Town’s Student Wellness Service to launch its first university campus Recovery Walk, bringing the message of recovery directly into the student community, with the campus walk set to return in 2026.

Thank you to Warren and the wider Recovery Walk Cape Town team for your continued work to support recovery and make it more visible!
