Soberlife International and WFAD Liaison Officer, in partnership with the Young African Leaders´ Initiative Speaks at the Kenyatta University´s Mentorship Day

On 24th February 2022, Soberlife International and WFAD Liaison Office, in partnership with the Young African Leaders’ Initiative was invited to be the main speaker of the Kenyatta University Mentorship Day. In most African countries, most youths are initiated into diverse influences at the colleges and universities. This is due to a number of factors, among them:

Dealing with culture shock in transiting from a mostly conservative high school and rural lifestyle to the more liberal higher education set up, and hence seek for identity. Many young people also develop what seems to be lifelong relationships, but which break soon after, leading to loneliness, low esteem and depression.

Due to the wide exposure and experience, the Liaison Representative was asked to share with the over 100 participants on ways of coping and succeeding through University life and how to overcome negative influences. Among the topics of discussion included alcohol and drug abuse and crime prevention, building pro active relationships, campus opportunities and post university transition.

In the same forum, the International Women’s Day was officially initiated. The celebration whose theme is: Break the Bias, held on Match 8th 2022 in Kajiado County, the heartland of the Masai community, known for holding very traditional lifestyles such as early, forced marriages for pre teenage girls and female genital mutilation.

WFAD is keen to support international days which have thematic relevance to its objectives of empowering the marginalized including women and children.
