Commemorating the World Drug Day 2021

Today, on June 26th, we are commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This year’s theme, announced by the UNODC, is “Share Facts on Drugs – Save lives” Only together, by sharing knowledge and helping each other, we can work towards establishing a safer environment by offering prevention, treatment, and recovery.

In line with sharing facts, the UNODC has published the World Drug Report 2021 this week. The 6 sub-booklets provide an in-depth analysis of the global drug markets and paint a comprehensive picture of the measurable effects and potential impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the world drug problem.

Prevention strategies require further development, the inclusion of minorities, and research in more regions. Therefore, we would like to use this day to reflect on the needs that will need to be considered in future prevention strategies and the necessity to involve all stakeholders.
