Commemorating this day, we would like to emphasize the unique risk factors girls face – from unrealistic beauty standards to mental health struggles, traumas, and gender-based violence – as well as distinctive protective factors that are essential for effective prevention efforts To ensure a healthy and fulfilling future for girls, we need tailored programs for young and adolescent girls that provide strong support systems through family support or mentoring programs, access to mental health resources and services, including counselling and peer support groups, and gender-sensitive empowerment that gives girls a voice.

Let’s hold spaces where girls feel seen, heard, and supported, without fear of stigma. Their futures depend on the care we provide today—mental health support, addiction recovery, and empowerment to live free from the cycle of substance use disorders
