To finalise the project, “Strengthening Social Support for Homeless Drug Users in Iran”, and to provide a final handover of the Minimum Quality Standards, the Rebirth team, including professionals from the field, and the working group (of which WFAD is part of) met twice via video call in September 2022. The Minimum Quality Standards is a document made by the Working Group in the project, which integrates:
- The Minimum Quality standards in Drug Demand Reduction in the EU (EMCDDA 2011)
- EU Agenda and Action plan on Drugs 2021-2025 (European Commission)
- International Standards for the Treatment of Drug Use Disorders (WHO and UNODC 2020)
while reflecting upon the protocols from Rebirth.
The two gatherings, included the working group, Rebirth staff, and health care professionals. During the meetings, practices and experiences were shared and elaborated on while questions were clarified. The meeting was fruitful and essential to understand practices, challenges, and positive developments in the field by our partners. Conclusions from the meeting were summarised and included in the updated version of the Minimum Quality Standards. Rebirth has expressed the positive influence of the project to be able to provide longer and more individualised support. The working group is hoping that the services provided by Rebirth will continue to be provided after the finalisation of the project as all parties agreed that the more time spend, the more issues can be integrated and resolved to work toward a long-term positive outcome.
