Today, on Orange Day, we stand in solidarity with women and girls around the globe, united in the fight to end violence against women. The theme, “Every 10 minutes a woman is killed – #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence Against Women”, is a stark reminder of the devastating toll gender-based violence takes on lives, families, and communities.

This crisis is compounded by the intersections of violence, substance abuse, and exploitation. Substance use disorders often exacerbate cycles of violence, creating environments where women and girls are disproportionately harmed. We call on governments, organizations, and individuals to strengthen support systems, enforce laws to protect women, and provide holistic, evidence-based interventions to break these cycles.

Let this day be a call to action for everyone: violence against women is never acceptable, and there is no excuse. Together, let us UNiTE to build a safer, equitable world where women can live free from fear.
