On November 20, TSAFI, an initiative of WFAD and DFAF, officially launched its new toolkit, “From Myth to Action.”
This toolkit is tailored for professionals working directly with individuals, families, communities, and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) programmes, offering practical, trauma-informed strategies to support prevention and recovery.
The toolkit emerged from the Global Campaign on Trauma and Substance Use Myths held in May 2025, which collected over 52 myths from 13 countries. These myths highlighted not only the prevalence of misinformation but also a strong desire within communities to better understand trauma and respond effectively.
To ensure the toolkit’s real-world relevance, it was piloted in South Africa, Pakistan, and Argentina. During the Launch Webinar, experts from these countries shared their experiences using the toolkit in their communities. Feedback was unanimously positive.
Experts agreed that the toolkit:
✔️ Opens safe and meaningful conversations about trauma
✔️ Builds understanding and promotes safe environments
✔️ Helps connect with people with lived experiences
✔️ Makes difficult conversations more approachable
✔️ Breaks stigma, encourages open dialogue, and empowers communities
The panel concluded that “From Myth to Action” provides a hopeful pathway forward, one that invites everyone to rethink, rewire misconceptions, and contribute to real, meaningful change in how trauma and addiction are understood and addressed.
