Deadline for applications: 24 September 2024
UNODC is organizing a hybrid Technical Consultation Meeting (TCM) on “Diversion of Controlled Medicines: Prevent, Detect, Respond” to be held in Vienna, Austria from 2 to 4 October 2024.
The TCM will be undertaken in the framework of the UNODC programme “Access to controlled drugs for medical and scientific purposes while preventing diversion and non-medical use”. The TCM will address the phenomenon of diversion of controlled medicines with the aim to promote multidisciplinary approaches to detect, prevent, and respond to it. Additionally, the meeting seeks to identify effective methods for monitoring, investigating, and reporting on cases of diversion.
Diversion of controlled medicines poses a risk to public health when they are used illicitly and may strain healthcare systems by creating shortage in the regulated supply chain, thus, depriving prescribed patients of essential medicines. It is imperative for manufacturers, wholesalers, pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and government agencies to work alongside law enforcement agencies to develop appropriate countermeasures to mitigate the risk of diversion.
If you wish to be considered please fill out the online application form before 24 September 2024, 11.45PM CEST (Vienna local time).
