Well, well Nick Clegg – do your homework!

Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg, the British Deputy Prime Minister, thinks that Britain has lost the “war on drugs”. A very strange assumption to come from a Deputy Prime Minister, especially as there hasn´t been any real “war on drugs” in Britain. Without any substantial evidence to support his claim, Clegg on top of that says (Spectator October 9) that “You’ve got very senior police officers now coming out saying that the war on drugs is failing”. So what? Who is to blame? Maybe the senior police officers are to blame for not carrying out their job properly, or maybe even the Liberal Democrats.
It is a pity that Clegg has bought masked pro-drug arguments instead of taking a closer look at and promoting effective preventive methods, care and treatment.
Nick Clegg probably hopes that British potheads and “learned men” looking out at reality from their academic ivory towers will support him. That might be the case, However, a majority of his country´s citizens won´t buy the idea that easy access to drugs will solve Britain´s drug problem.
