Day 9 – WFADs 16 Days of Activism and the International Day of People with Disabilities with the Fourth Wave Foundation

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and the International Day of People with Disabilities gives WFAD the chance of addressing systemic issues that perpetuate inequality, abuse, and neglect. Beyond highlighting violence, we advocate for creating inclusive environments where vulnerable populations, such as women, girls, and children with disabilities, can thrive. Education plays a critical role in breaking cycles of marginalization and fostering equality. Inclusive education not only empowers individuals but also strengthens communities, making it a powerful tool for systemic change.

In Karnataka, children with disabilities face barriers to education, with 70,000 never attending school and 50,000 dropping out due to emotional neglect and inaccessible infrastructure. Recognizing this challenge, Nanagu Shaale was launched to empower children with disabilities and integrate them into mainstream education. Aligned with Goal 4 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and India’s National Education Policy 2030, Nanagu Shaale has, over the past 15 years, provided nutrition, healthcare, and education to 60,000 children with disabilities. Through training educators, developing toolkits, and launching advocacy campaigns, the initiative has helped create scalable models of inclusive education. During the 16 Days of Activism, Nanagu Shaale’s work underscores the importance of inclusive education in combating neglect and discrimination. By ensuring children with disabilities, especially girls, receive equitable education, we not only address systemic inequalities but also pave the way for a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
