Our individual member Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Nazri Mohd Daud hosted the World Drug Day event on June 23rd in collaboration with the Rural Medical Education Center and the Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The concluding report was shared, showcasing a successful event.
In a significant collaborative effort, the Rural Medical Education Center (RMEC) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), alongside Sikuati 2 National Secondary School and various health and anti-drug organizations, successfully hosted the World Drug Day 2025 program in Kudat, Sabah, East Malaysia. This pioneering event, held on June 23, 2025, engaged around 300 secondary school students in comprehensive anti-drug initiatives. According to Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Nazri Mohd Daud, a Consultant Family Medicine Specialist and medical lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UMS, who served as the program’s chairman, activities included preventive talks, quizzes, exhibitions, and valuable sharing sessions with senior medical students from UMS, all aligned with the theme “Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All.
A key outcome of the program was the establishment of the CARE-Team group (CTC), a peer support network designed to empower selected students as role models and educators in promoting drug-free lives. Students also demonstrated their commitment by taking an anti-drug oath and writing pledges on a giant poster. This event marks the first time RMEC has organized such a large-scale anti-drug program in a rural area of Sabah, highlighting a dedicated commitment to safeguarding vulnerable youth in remote communities and showcasing the power of collaboration in fostering a healthier, drug-free future.
