The project “Strengthening Social Support for Homeless Drug Users” organised by Rebirth, of which WFAD is part, has published its first Interim Narrative Report. This report showcases their work, activities, developments, achievements challenges, etc. from the first year.
The overall objective of the project is to reduce the rate of homelessness and relapse among drug users in Iran which has fortunately been achieved during the first year. The first year of the project (from 1st of July 2020 until 30th of June 2021) was devoted to the start of the implementation of activities in the six provinces of Tehran, Fars, Alborz, Qom, Kerman and East Azerbaijan. These activities have been elaborated in detail, including the outcomes, challenges and contingency plan. In the first year, the project entailed the following example activities:
- online training workshops for national trainers for the staff and focal points by international trainers;
- selection of and contracted treatment centres, after which clients were referred for the purpose of treatment and rehabilitation;
- offering tailor-made intervention and case management services based on the clients’ need and/or priorities through sub-activities;
- providing relapse prevention
- improving family relationships and reuniting/reintegrating clients into their family
- offering accommodation to clients
- organising vocational training
- creating jobs
