In the framework of the mapping project of CSOs working in the fight against drugs, WFAD DRC is organizing training of interviewers in data collection with digital tools (Kobocollect). The pre-study is funded by ForumCiv. The objectives of this five-day training sessions are to train interviewers to develop their capacity to collect quantitative and qualitative data using digital tools; to teach interviewers how to use the Kobocollect software, from the collection of quantitative and qualitative data to the remote uploading of information into the WFAD DRC server; to facilitate the proper use of the pre-survey e-formula by interviewers.

The first day was essentially devoted to general information on the functioning of the Open Data Kit (ODK) tools; the Kobocollect mobile data collection application; and the installation and configuration or interconnection of Kobocollect to the WFAD DRC server. Participants from PNCLT and CCPS-UNIKIN learned how the Open Data Kit (ODK) tools work, including the Kobocollect application for data collection. In addition, participants learned and assimilated the download and installation of the Kobocollect application including its configuration to the data preview server created within the project.

Knowledge of the field of substance abuse in the DRC is lacking overall and severely lacking in terms of any possibilities in creating cooperation opportunities and networking between actors, as a lot of this information is simply not available/not collected. According to data provided by partners that are in contact with youth and their families, including research from the Center of Criminology at the University of Kinshasa, 100 % of all youth involved in these gangs use various substances on a regular basis. On the other hand, there is a clear lack of high quality and large sample studies because of a lack of funding for such research.

There is a clear need to expand programme-related activities to more communities in Kinshasa. However, without any clear mapping of the field and actors’ needs, such a task is impossible. As a result, there is a need to create conditions for better coordination and cooperation to ensure sharing of knowledge, capacity, and experience, as well as local outreach. The goal is to map out the organisations and actors that specifically work with drug-related problems in these communities, and through this mapping get a better understanding of how drug and substance abuse influences and maintains people living in poverty, as well as in better assessing their needs for further activity expansion.

The pre-study funded by ForumCiv would provide networking and partnership opportunities for WFAD DRC and for the organisations working in the field. Other CSOs working within the field would benefit from capacity building in this regard. These organisations are currently working in an isolated manner. Secondly, the pre-study would allow the DRC to participate fully as part of the overall regional WFAD network. Today outreach and information are lacking in this participation. Thirdly, the mapping would help to get an accurate view of the scale of the issues related to youth drug abuse and youth empowerment/engagement, which could in the long run inform the development of better and more realistic programming in support of the youth, their families, and the communities at large.

Pré-étude de ForumCiv en RDC : Les enquêteurs formés à la collecte de données avec l’outil numérique Kobocollect

Dans le cadre du projet de cartographie des OSC œuvrant dans la lutte contre la drogue, WFAD DRC organise une formation des enquêteurs en collecte de données avec les outils numériques (Kobocollect). La pré-étude est financée par ForumCiv. Cette formation de cinq jours a pour objectifs : Former les enquêteurs à développer des capacités de collecte des données quantitatives et qualitatives avec les outils numériques; Apprendre aux enquêteurs l’utilisation du pro-logiciel Kobocollect, de la collecte de données quantitatives et qualitatives jusqu’au télé versement d’informations dans le serveur WFAD DRC ; Faciliter  l’utilisation adéquate du e-formulaire de la pré-enquête auprès des enquêteurs.

La première journée a été essentiellement consacrée aux généralités concernant le fonctionnement des outils Open Data Kit (ODK) ; l’application Kobocollect de collecte des données mobiles ; ainsi que l’installation et configuration ou interconnexion de Kobocollect au serveur WFAD DRC. Les participants provenant du PNCLT et CCPS-UNIKIN ont appris le mode de fonctionnement des outils Open Data Kit (ODK)  notamment l’application Kobocollect pour la collecte de données. En outre, les participants ont appris et assimiler le téléchargement et l’installation de l’application Kobocollect y compris sa configuration au serveur de prévisualisation des données créé dans le cadre du projet.

La connaissance du domaine de l’abus de drogues et de substances en RDC est globalement insuffisante, et très insuffisante en termes de possibilités de créer des opportunités de coopération et de mise en réseau entre les acteurs, car beaucoup de ces informations ne sont tout simplement pas disponibles/non collectées. Selon les données fournies par les partenaires qui sont en contact avec les jeunes et leurs familles, y compris les recherches du Centre de Criminologie de l’Université de Kinshasa, 100 % de tous les jeunes impliqués dans ces gangs consomment régulièrement diverses substances. D’autre part, il y a un manque évident d’études de haute qualité et de grands échantillons en raison du manque de financement pour de telles recherches.

Il existe un besoin évident d’étendre les activités liées au programme à davantage de communautés à Kinshasa. Cependant, sans une cartographie claire du terrain et des besoins des acteurs, une telle tâche est impossible. Par conséquent, il est nécessaire de créer les conditions d’une meilleure coordination et coopération pour assurer le partage des connaissances, des capacités et des expériences, ainsi que la sensibilisation locale. L’objectif est de recenser les organisations et les acteurs qui travaillent spécifiquement sur les problèmes liés à la drogue dans ces communautés et, grâce à cette cartographie, de mieux comprendre comment la drogue et l’abus de drogues influencent et maintiennent les personnes vivant dans la pauvreté, ainsi que de mieux évaluer leurs besoins pour l’expansion des activités.

La pré-étude financée par ForumCiv offrirait des opportunités de réseautage et de partenariat pour la WFAD RDC et pour les organisations travaillant sur le terrain. D’autres OSC travaillant sur le terrain bénéficieraient d’un renforcement des capacités à cet égard. Ces organisations travaillent actuellement de manière isolée. La pré-étude permettrait également à la RDC de participer pleinement en tant que membre du réseau régional global de la WFAD. Aujourd’hui, la sensibilisation et l’information font défaut dans cette participation. Troisièmement, la cartographie aiderait à avoir une vision précise de l’ampleur des problèmes liés à l’abus de drogues chez les jeunes et à l’autonomisation/engagement des jeunes, ce qui pourrait à long terme informer le développement d’une meilleure programmation et plus réaliste pour soutenir les jeunes, leurs familles et les communautés en général.
