We invite you to take part in an important global survey on family recovery by March 14th. If you are a family member, loved one, or friend of someone in active addiction or recovery, or who has passed away due to addiction, or if you work with families affected by addiction, we want to hear from you.
This survey is part of the Global Position Paper on Family Recovery (GPPFR) led by WFAD and is a global initiative bringing together organisations, researchers, professionals, and people with lived experience to amplify the voices of affected families and shape global recovery support.
Why is this Survey Important?
In 2024, a paper was presented to the United Nations (UN) about the experiences and support available for people in recovery from addiction. In 2025, we aim to do the same for families and loved ones affected by addiction and recovery.
Your insights will directly inform a Global Position Paper on Family Recovery, which will be used to advocate for better support, policies, and collaboration at national and international levels, including at the UN. This is an opportunity to make a real impact and ensure that family voices are heard in shaping future services and support systems.
Why are we collecting this information?
We want to:
- Understand the experiences of families and loved ones affected by addiction.
- Highlight the support available and where improvements are needed.
- Strengthen collaboration between organizations and individuals providing family support.
- Improve global awareness of the challenges and strengths of affected families.
Who is this Survey for?
This survey is for family members, loved ones, and friends who have been affected by a loved one’s experience with addiction. You may participate if:
🔷Your loved one is currently in active addiction (using substances).
🔷Your loved one is in recovery from addiction (whether early or long-term recovery).
🔷 You have lost a loved one to addiction (due to overdose, illness, or other related causes).
We recognise that “family” can mean different things. This survey is open to biological, step, adopted, and found/chosen family members, as well as close friends who have been impacted by a loved one’s substance use or recovery.
📌 Professionals who support families affected by addiction in any capacity. You may participate if you work in the following fields:
🔷Treatment and healthcare – including addiction treatment, mental health services, harm reduction, or medical care.
🔷Organisations supporting families – Whether you provide direct support (e.g., counselling, peer support) or indirect support (e.g., policy, program development, funding, or research).
🔷 Family peer support and advocacy – Supporting families through lived experience, mentoring, or community-based programs.
