Today marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Daily, people with disabilities face discrimination in many different areas. Together, we have to make sure that we stop discrimination, ensure inclusion, empower them, provide security, and enable engagement.
Our member Kisumu Disabled Self-help group (KIDSEG) in Kenya, is a community development organisation that is committed to involving young people with disabilities in activities that promote dignity and well-being through engaging them in advocacy, information dissemination, and socio-economic empowerment programmes. Usually, they organise many activities on this day to raise awareness. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions in the country and the fear to spread the virus, they have decided to be active online since the need for awareness is still very much apparent.
