Make your voice heard here –> Youth Declaration – Global Call to Action
During the 16 Days of Activism, we not only fight against gender-based violence (GBV) but also recognize the critical role young people play in creating a safer, healthier, and more equitable world. Youth participation is a right—enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)—and we must ensure young voices are heard in addressing critical global issues.
Youth Leadership for Change:
The CRC affirms children’s rights to participate in decisions affecting their lives. When it comes to GBV, substance use, and mental health, young people bring invaluable insights into prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. They understand the realities of their generation and have the power to drive innovative solutions.
The WFAD Youth Declaration calls for action that centers on these rights by:
- Creating violence-free spaces through holistic prevention strategies.
- Ensuring access to child-centered care that respects dignity and human rights.
- Promoting empowered recovery, where young survivors and advocates play leading roles.
The Connection Between GBV and Substance Use:
Gender-based violence often intersects with substance use, creating cycles of harm. Prevention efforts must consider how trauma impacts youth and involve them in designing systems that break these cycles. Youth participation in this fight ensures their lived experiences inform and improve strategies to protect their peers.
A Global Call to Action:
The WFAD Youth Declaration is a powerful step toward addressing these interconnected issues. It embodies the CRC’s principles, advocating for:
- Inclusive policies that amplify youth voices in the fight against GBV and harmful behaviors.
- Collaboration with young people to build trauma-informed solutions.
- Education and awareness to empower communities and prevent violence before it starts.
Take Action Today:
Join us in sharing the WFAD Youth Declaration and calling on leaders to invest in youth-led change. Together, we can uphold the rights of children and youth while working toward a future free from violence and harm.
